A few weeks ago, we received a message through our contacts page here on our website. it was from a pastor in Nigeria. Pastor David Osadebameuchena lgbirigheghe of the Otuoutagbama-Missionary Baptist Church wrote us and told about his situation there. he mentioned that, while the town had received many refugees from other areas, many leaving areas of persecution and strife, his church served as a refuge for this area of the world. In addition to asking for prayer, he asked if we would be willing to send Bibles for the people of his church. God laid on my heart to share this with our church. The response from the congregation was overwhelming. While my family and I were on vacation, with my brother-in-law presiding over the service, the church took up an offering to help bring the Bibles all the way to Africa. But we didn't just want to send them a package-- we wanted to send them a gift. After we had received the Bibles, this past Sunday we encouraged everyone to write a personal message to those who would read it. Again, the response was overwhelming. Even our children wrote messages in each of the Bibles, letting the people know that we care ablut them, are praying for them, and hope that the Holy Spirit would bless them and illuminate the Holy Scriptures for them so that they would know the God of the Universe and His Son, Jesus Christ, in a real and personal way. As soon as the Bibles arrive in Nigeria, we will update this post. In the meantime, if you would like to help bring Bibles to Nigeria or other parts of the world, let us know by clicking on our contacts page. In the meantime, I want to share some of the photos of Pastor David's church...

Here is our church calendar for June. A couple of key dates we need you to be aware of:
June 10 is Graduation Day! We are celebrating our very own Olivia Glotfelty taking her place with the Bullitt East HS Class of 2018 at Freedom Hall. Meanwhile, her dad also has to attend the graduation ceremony for Bullitt Central HS as well. So Pastor Everett Holloway is returning to preach the message that morning during worship. The following weekend, June 17, is Father's Day, in which we will honor our fathers and grandfathers with a special gift for all you do. That afternoon, we will have another fellowship meal with Room in the Inn at 4 pm. In addition, we will start a brand new series on Sundays called "I Wish Jesus Hadn't Said That". It's based on a book by Steve Timmis, and it explores many of the "hard" sayings of Jesus and shows why it's important to follow what he said. Also, we are wrapping up our Wednesday Night Bible Study on Acts, which we will feature on our Facebook page. Join us, won't ya? Ladies: The annual Ladies' Retreat at Camp Nikao is a week from Friday. There is still time to register. Even if you don't want to stay over night, you can still participate in the meetings/services/meals at a discounted rate. Click on the link below to download/print your own form, or go to the state website:
If you wanted to participate in a Bible Study but couldn't make it out on Wednesday nights, we're bringing it to you! We've just recorded our first video for our Bible Study on Acts, which covers the end of chapter 18 and the beginning of chapter 19. This was a "homemade" video, so excuse the rough edges. You can access the video on our Facebook page.
We make choices everyday. Not all of our choices are what people would consider consequential or agonizing. Sure, we agonize and have consequences over all of our choices, like what to wear or what to eat. But what about those "big choices"? Do we choose to go along to get along? Do we choose to take control of our lives? Do we choose what seems urgent today? Do we choose to regret the choices we've already made?
OR, do we choose to live a life of purpose, a life of surrender, a life of discipline, and a life that chooses what's important? There's a lot more on the line when we say the words, I Choose... For the rest of the month of April, we'll explore how to be intentional about the choices we make. April 8: "I Choose Purpose over Popularity" April 15: "I Choose Discipline Over Regret" April 22: "I Choose Surrender Over Control" April 28: "I Choose Important over Urgent" When John the Baptist was preaching repentance and forgiveness of sins while baptizing in the Jordan River, Yeshua came to meet him and be baptized. John took one look at Him and said, "Behold the Lamb God, who takes away the sin of the world." These words predicted the mission of Jesus and gives a clue to understanding the significance of Jesus' death and resurrection. In this 5 part series, beginning March 4 and ending Easter Sunday, we'll look at the concept of Jesus as our atoning sacrifice for sin. We hope that by reading what the Word of God says about this, you'll be amazed and thankful-- and hopefully a more thoughtful and faithful Disciple as a result. Join us, won't ya?
The Mt. Washington Family Worship Center is preparing to present for an exclusive, one-night-only event. In cooperation with On Buzz entertainment, we are pleased to present "Tortured for Christ".
This movie, released by The Voice of the Martyrs, is based on the best-selling book by Richard Wurmbrand. Pastor Wurmbrand spent more than 14 years in a Communist prison, in which he was beaten, tortured, humiliated and left for dead-- all for proclaiming the truth of the Gospel and speaking out against the evils of the Communist regime in post WWII Romania. After he and his wife were released from prison, Pastor Wurmbrand dedicated his life to helping those who like he were persecuted because of their faith in Jesus Christ, and to alert the world of the plight of fellow Christians. This movie has already created quite a stir among moviegoers. The only other theater to show this movie, the Cinemark in St. Matthews, has already sold out their tickets for their one time showing. But now, we are pleased to present this film to you! Keystone Cinemas and their wonderful staff have agreed to help us host this event. Our tentative time for the showing is Sunday night, March 11 at 7 pm. We will alert you when tickets become available. In the meantime, help us spread the word! Tell your friends, family and loved ones! We want to pack the house for this extraordinary movie. I encourage you to check out the trailer here at torturedforchrist.com. A portion of the proceeds will be going to help persecuted Christians. And every one who buys a ticket will receive a free copy of the book! |
